BIRDHURST DAY NURSERY AND BABY UNIT

Birdhurst Day Nursery has now been in operation for over 20 years and was established by Christian Family Concern, a registered charity based in South Croydon. Our aim is to provide high quality child care in a Christian environment.

NURSERY AIMS

Our aim is to provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment placing an emphasis on following an 'Early Years' learning curriculum for all ages (0 - 5 years).

  SETTLING IN PROCEDURE

We recognise that every child is an individual and we work hard on meeting individual needs. There will be an opportunity to settle a child in the nursery prior to admission if necessary or our advice will be for the child to begin with a short day, with the view to lengthening the time until a full day is achieved.

  ACTIVITIES/EQUIPMENT/CURRICULUM PLANNING

Birdhurst is well maintained and equipped with good resources, providing a high standard of care and education for all ages. All groups follow the ‘Birth to Three Matters’ or the ‘Foundation Stage’. In September 2008 these two stages will be combined together to form the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Each child is periodically assessed to ascertain area of development to build upon and to assist the planning of activities. On a daily basis planning is evaluated, all children' assessment and information are available on request.

We encourage parents to take an active role in their child's learning. Staff will be happy to discuss a child progress with parents either informally or by appointment.

Each group will follow a theme / topic for a pre-set time taking into consideration the child's age and ability. These themes / topics give parents a good opportunity to both contribute items of interest. e.g.recycleable materials for modelling, catalogues / magazines for collage / cutting etc or as visiting parents to talk to children about skills they may personally be able to contribute. We feel it is very important that the nursery maintains a strong link in partnership with parents/ carers.

The Nursery is registered to take 50 children per day. A number of children share a part time place and we therefore have approximately 60 children on our register per week.

Text Box: The children’s meals/snacks are prepared on the premises by our own cooks who have many years of experience in catering for children Their aim is to produced a healthy, nutritious diet for each child. If you have any dietary requirements/needs or just wish to chat about a healthy balanced lifestyle for your children they will be more than happy to chat to you.

We encourage outdoor and mirrored play for all children within the nursery. We have a large well equipped garden area and decking which is used on a daily basis.

PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

Our aims are to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for parents as well as children. Staff wish to establish a rapport with you .To encourage you to share any information about your child that might assist them in caring for your child, e.g. child's development or problems at home, etc. Such information is given in confidence for the purpose of assisting the staff to do their best for your child. Staff will at all times aim to give you feedback on how your child has been at the Nursery including any concerns.

CHILDREN WITH EXTRA NEEDS

Birdhurst welcomes application from parents or carer with children with any additional needs.
Our detailed SEN Policy is available for parents. We work within the DFES Code of Practice (581/2001). Our aim is to provide equality of opportunity and achievement for all of the children in the Birdhurst Day Nursery and we will take all steps that we can to include those with additional needs and not to disadvantage them.
